Kiln-dried pine woodshavings that have been triple screened to remove
dust, then baled in Colac and stocked by produce stores and pet
retailers across Australia.
All of our shavings pass through a purpose-built three-part screen.
The first 'star screen' removes any oversize pieces, with the
remaining shavings entering a rotary trommel screen that extracts
the sawdust and fines. The final phase of the screening process
removes the smaller airborne dust particles.
Kiln-dried to 8–13%
Our shavings come from timber kiln-dried to a moisture content of
8–13%. That's what makes them absorbent — the bedding
works harder, stays drier, and lasts longer between changes.
Our own trucks
Raw shavings travel in our own dedicated trailers, used for nothing
else. Where biosecurity matters, that chain of custody is the point.
All natural
Radiata pine and nothing else — no chemical additives. Suited to
horses, poultry, cattle, and the smallest hutch dwellers.

The bale
One format, done right
Compressed to 14kg, expands to approx. 0.18 m³ uncompressed.
Dense to freight, easy to stack, open it when you need it — the same
bale at every stockist.
In the shed
Poultry, horses, and everything smaller
Equine
Dust-extracted bedding for stables and floats — screened to remove the fine dust that aggravates equine airways.
Poultry
Nesting boxes, coops and sheds — absorbent litter that keeps poultry dry, from the backyard flock to commercial growers.
Small animals & cattle
Calf pens, rabbit hutches, guinea pig runs and rodent cages — the same screened, additive-free shavings.
Our story
Thirty-odd years of shavings
Breeder's Choice has been packaging woodshavings in Colac since
1994 — a family business on the edge of the Otways, one of
Victoria's historic pine-growing regions. It's still run by the same
family today.
The shavings start as a by-product of timber milling — kiln-dried
radiata pine, nothing else. Everything after that is the business:
triple screening, pressing into 14kg bales, robotic palletising and
shrink-wrapping. One product, done carefully, for over three decades.
In 2016 the family took on Superior Shavings —
now baling from Tumut, in the heart of NSW softwood country, to
the same standard for customers north of the border.
We supply produce stores, saddleries and pet retailers Australia-wide.
Pallets come robotically stacked, shrink-wrapped and topped. Ring us
